Haha, the awkward years of Grand Theft Auto. It was fun in a stupid arcade-y sort of way. I remember you could fart and burp on-command. As far as where it stacks with games now and the newer Grand Theft Auto's, well, there's a reason you don't hear about them.

I have never played GTA but I have noticed the cult following for this game. It's quite popular on many gaming forums.

For the most part, the Grand Theft Auto series' cult following can be attributed to everything after Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto II, which were dated, even at the time, and more arcade-style experiences (not to say there aren't people who like them, of course).
