You know what, I was on the fence when I heard about another Dungeons & Dragons movie, but I'm open to it. I won't see it in theaters, but I will check it out when it hits home-video and let you all know what I think about it.

Currently, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is at 180 million worldwide at the box office with a production budget of about 150 million.

Although it isn't available, I would assume that the marketing budget would be enough to say the film cost 200 million total.

Thus, in spite its positive reception, the film looks to have failed to recoup its budget (in fact, I would be surprised to say it is at about 100 million in the hole).

Hopefully, it will play better on the home-market and on streaming services to cover the damages dealt.

On the other hand, the film was a collaboration between Hasbro and Paramount, and I think that might be important. The film's financial success likely won't be an apples-to-apples to conventional metrics, instead the synergistic value it has with the D&D card game will likely be a factor as well. Like the film is one great big expensive billboard.

I think it would be fun if we could get a small little franchise out of it, with loosely, vaguely connected movies released that are set in the world.

I assume if it sells their board game, they will be happy-campers. Like you said, it is a billboard that will exist for years and years to come, especially because it was well received, unlike the other movies.

This wasn't bad. It wasn't anything I believe we will be talking about in years to come (in-comparison to major fantasy heavy-hitters, I mean), but it was a fun, popcorn movie, and, in that respect, it's very successful.
