The fact Silent Hills was canceled is something I believe will always be devastating to fans of both the Silent Hill franchise and of survival horror in-general. Silent Hill in and of itself has inspired a plethora of other survival horror outings, influencing an entire genre (alongside Resident Evil). Twice over, however, a mere trailer (P.T.) for Silent Hills has also inspired a new phase of surrealist horror - from Layers of Fear to Resident Evil 7, and it is sad to think that it will never see the light. I don't hate Bloober Team as much as certain gamers do (I liked Blair Witch, I thought Layers of Fear was alright), but even if their remake of Silent Hill 2 is best case scenario (as good a remake of Silent Hill 2 as Capcom's remake of Resident Evil 2), it is still, frankly, a retread of what came prior to. Silent Hills, on the other hand, wasn't trying to celebrate the past but usher the franchise someplace new and innovative.
