So, I recently watched a film (per @Nick's recommendation) called Speak No Evil, and I will say, it was, maybe, perhaps, the most cynical film I have seen in years. It was so bereft of happiness that I felt like a Dementor was sucking out my soul. What other movies can you think of that are depressing and cynical, why did they make you feel that way. In Speak No Evil's case, it was the complete disparity of the main-characters and their hopelessness (to a fault).

In terms of cynicism and depressing undertones, I don't think you can go wrong with something directed by Michael Haneke. Funny Games and Benny's Video are both examples I would single out. There is a film called The Boy (not that one) that has a similar vibe of isolation and loneliness I'd recommend if you were looking for that.
