Scream (1996) - Wes Craven

View attachment 12
Title: Scream
Director: Wes Craven
Writers: Kevin Williamson
Brief Summary: "Wes Craven re-invented and revitalised the slasher-horror genre with this modern horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts - but the victims aren't always the ones...

Scream had everything you could ask for in a slasher film. The acting was solid. The kills were fun. And the villain was instantly iconic and has an evergreen quality to him that allows the series to carry on forever and ever (if they're willing to reinvent themselves).

I certainly have a lot of love for this film myself. To my surprise as well, I enjoyed the newest Scream film a fair bit as well. This, that, and Scream 4, I consider to be very good slasher films, not a lot of series' in the horror genre with that many highlights.

I love how the voice of Ghostface is Mojo Jojo from The Powerpuff Girls :p First time I found out I was like "What!"

At a time when slasher films were starting to go by the wayside, Wes Craven's Scream film breathed new life in the genre, ironically, by highlighting its many flaws and repetitions. It turned the concept on its head, and added new, unique characters, including a likable trio and memorable antagonists.

Interesting enough, the voice-actor who voices Ghostface was originally intended as a placeholder until they found a suitable performer, but then, they liked him so much he became a franchise mainstay!

Good film. All in all, I like the Scream series pretty much across the board. Except maybe the third film. I'm excited for Scream VI.

The new film overtook Scream 4 and Scream (2022) to become the 4th large film in the series. Looks like it is only a matter of time before Scream 7 is announced.
