I have a lot of commitment to Nightmare Shift. With that commitment, I also have something else in heavy supply as well - patience. I have written reviews and shared my love and affection for storytelling online since 2007 (on an egregiously named wrestling forum I made with a free-hosted phpBB software, mind you), and it wasn't for no reason. I wanted to create an honest and true celebration of each medium.
It was from that I introduce you to the early-beginnings of the Nightmare Shift Hall of Fame.
The Nightmare Shift Hall of Fame is exactly what you think it is - a Hall of Fame for Movies, Videogames, and Books (and eventually, other mediums as well).
The whole idea behind the Nightmare Shift Hall of Fame is to create an archive highlighting what means the most to each of us, and offering it the recognition and affirmation it surely deserves.
How does a story become included into the Hall of Fame, you may ask? To that, I have offered a lot of consideration. Something I don't want to do is host an "Award show - style" extravaganza where I hand-out Hall of Fame nominations like they're going out of style (and judging by the Oscars and their declining ratings - they really are).
I say it again - patience.
For that, I have come up with three different ways a Hall of Fame entry can be submitted to Nightmare Shift.
1.) The Review system - The Reviews section is the lifeblood of Nightmare Shift. For that reason, it makes sense that it would be the first, most direct way for a story to find passage into the Hall of Fame. You think I am asking you to leave a rating for a film thread you've posted on for my health!? Nah, they actually matter! It won't be easy - but a Story can be added into the Hall of Fame by receiving 15 ratings and an average score of at least 4.0 out of 5.0 (this requirement may increase over time - prior inductees will be grandfathered in, however).
2.) The Committee - although it is too early to start handing out an Elite-tier to newcomers on Nightmare Shift(we aren't even a month in after all), you better believe I am paying attention to the ones who have contributed thoughtful, considerate posts throughout our forum.
Individuals who are chosen for inclusion in the Committee will be able to submit nominations for the Nightmare Shift Hall of Fame selection. They will be able to select one story every ninety days and have a Poll conducted where, if the majority (Nightmare Shiftas a whole) rules in favor, their submission will be accepted.
3.) The Nightmare Shift [Presents] is a new forum we've created. Basically, it's someplace where Members can post Podcasts, archive their reviews, and more (I am looking for ways for users to embed their Logs in forum posts).
For example, I will host two Podcasts, one by myself called the Nightmare Shift Podcast and another called The Hodgepodge Lodge with my wife Beccah (@Becklebear). By doing so, I am able to talk about stories in an in-depth, intimate way. By doing so, I can, theoretically, have an additional story submission every ninety days through both the Nightmare Shift[Presents] clause and the Committee clause (thus, I would be able to submit two Hall of Fame candidates in a 90 day period, so long as I did a Podcast in which a candidate was a main topic of an episode).
* Note: Although these separate clauses do allow a person to submit twice, I am not able to submit thrice in spite hosting two separate Podcasts. However, my co-host is also able to submit a candidate of her own.
Ultimately, what I am really looking for, above all else, is for you to care in what we are trying to make. I don't want any Hall of Fame inductions to be made that aren't considered or are done on a whim or as a joke. At the same time, I won't impose an elitism either. If you follow the rules, submit the candidate, and it passes the Poll, it will be a Hall of Famer on Nightmare Shift.
