Matilda was my all time favorite book as a little girl! I read it repeatedly throughout my childhood. It was first time I had ever heard of a newt. Thank goodness for the classic illustrations because I was lost!

I was taken aback by that a little bit. I even went and looked it up afterward. Apparently, although it isn't officially credited, the Steven Spielberg movie was loosely based on Roald's story. I never knew that.

I was the same when I first found out he wrote it.
