CCTV's "Focus Interview" viewing the development of New Productive Forces through Shenghong's negative carbon industrial chain
Time:2024-03-23
CCTV's "Focus Interview" program focused on New Productive Forces and reported on Shenghong Petrochemical's negative carbon industry chain on 4 minutes and 47 seconds of the program, March 23rd. Here are the main points of the report:
Lately, good news came from Shenghong Petrochemical in the petrochemical industry base in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. The company's "carbon dioxide capture and utilization - green methanol - new energy materials" production line was put into operation, successfully producing high-quality materials such as ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate. These materials can be used not only to manufacture lithium batteries but also have wide applications in renewable energy, 5G technology, integrated circuits, medicine, and new additives in frontier areas.
Li Xiujie, Deputy General Manager of the Development Department of Shenghong Petrochemical Industry Group, said, "All the (new energy materials) we produce meet the electronic grade high purity, exceeding the 99.99% purity of electronic grade products. It meets market demand and breaks foreign technological monopolies and product monopolies, which are both very significant."
Staff told reporters that the main raw materials for producing these high-end new energy materials are not high-end themselves. They are produced by recycling and capturing industrial carbon dioxide to produce high-quality methanol, and then using this high-quality methanol to produce high-quality new energy materials.
Currently, most companies in the chemical industry extract methanol from fossil raw materials and then use methanol to produce downstream products. Overall, it is a process of exploiting and utilizing carbon from fossil raw materials and releasing it into the atmosphere. However, Shenghong's carbon dioxide-to-green methanol project uses internationally leading green technology to transform carbon dioxide from waste gases into high-end new materials, narrowing the domestic gap in the high-end market and enhancing the company's core competitiveness. In September 2021, Shenghong Petrochemical cooperated with international leading enterprises to jointly develop a "150,000-ton carbon dioxide capture and comprehensive utilization project" and took the lead in launching the construction of the industrial chain of carbon capture and utilization - green methanol - new energy new materials in China to achieve carbon reduction goals and promote the revitalization and development of traditional petrochemical industries. After two years of hard work, the 100,000-ton methanol production project was officially put into operation, laying the foundation for the production of other products from green methanol in the future. The project is designed to absorb 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually and convert 100,000 tons of methanol annually. Like afforestation, this set of equipment "simulates photosynthesis" with a carbon dioxide recovery conversion rate of nearly 100%, indirectly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 550,000 tons per year, equivalent to planting 37,000 hectares of forest.
